Why You’re Not Living

I know what it’s like, spending all your waking hours and nights when you really need sleep working towards your goals. There is nothing you wouldn’t do to make it, even if it means sacrificing your health and peace of mind. The constant pursuit of wanting something is making you/us/me forget to live and find joy even in the most uncomfortable times. I know you have asked yourself why you’re not living. Why aren’t you living right now in this moment? I know, there’s a place or a destination you are longing to reach but it doesn’t exist in the here and now.

So you miss out on this magical moment, even if your day has been shitty. Perhaps you didn’t sleep well last night?  You were either up late working or tossing and turning in bed thinking about what’s next, what you need to do or what don’t have yet. We are always hoping for something else and then look back and see what we missed while we were in pursuit. The pursuit of our dreams shouldn’t eclipse our daily joy. No matter how tiny, for instance, you are here today be thankful! I don’t know what shit you are going through, trust me we are all going through something. Alas, sometimes there is really nothing that you can do. Sometimes there isn’t an answer and you just have to wait it out, let time happen.

With the chaos that is life and a mission to achieve your goals taking center stage you often forget to live. We act as if tomorrow is guaranteed and that we can put things off. We don’t realize the value of making time for you, and the things that make you smile; the people. What happened to the adventurer in you? Remember, when you were young and you were always willing to try something new? Those warm summer nights when you laid on the grass and gazed at the stars? These days many people don’t look up. Everyone’s gaze is at their phones nowadays. No wonder it’s hard to be happy.

 

Your Health

There is nothing worth having if your mind isn’t at peace. Peace of mind is wealth. Whatever you are chasing, it shouldn’t compromise your overall wellbeing. All or nothing shouldn’t mean you need to be emotionally depleted, sad, anxious or depressed because you abandoned self-love along the way. I think it’s important to be disciplined and committed but this also entails a commitment to your overall wellness; mental and physical health. Peace of mind has no price. You can be the unhappiest billionaire. When you invest in yourself it’s not about the dream, it’s about who you are and who you will become and how you feel. Your mind is utopia, your mind will either manifest heaven or hell on earth.

Don’t neglect the pursuit of becoming the best you beyond material gain. Peace of mind, there’s no price on this. While you grind every day to get that house or that career or whatever your heart desires, make sure part of that work is about YOU and how you FEEL because, in the end, you’re all you’ve got.

 

Why You Need To Start Living

There are no guarantees. Today is the perfect day to be present, like right now. If you have been wanting to travel go somewhere, even if it’s for two days, go! Take a road trip, get up, stop slouching and take a walk without your phone. A little bit of something when it comes to living in the moment is better than nothing. Add all those little bits together and you’ve got a whole lot of something. Moments that become great memories.

I know why you’re not living, you think that anything other than working your ass off will determine whether you achieve your goals or not. What happened to balance? I have the same issue, I can get consumed by things and forget about the other important things in life; living. Long work days, long weekends eventually lead to burnout. Sometimes unexpected health problems. Your body will tell you when it’s time to rest, listen to it. Don’t wait until you’ve broken down emotionally and physically.

It’s that gamble we take that, in the end, won’t be worth it. There are a lot of unhealthy successful people who, if you ask will tell you, the one thing they wish the did is to take better care of themselves. Enjoy the journey and actively live each moment. Stop saying when this happens…You will most likely miss the joy you’re meant to experience at that moment when whatever happens because you have built your life around living for what’s next.
