I know how overwhelming it can be when you are in the wine store searching for a good wine. With so much selection, it’s hard to know where to start. It’s also important to pair wines well with the food you plan on serving your guests. Don’t fret, I am here to help you! To get you started I have a small list of six must-have wines for spring. Remember, it’s all trial and error. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Most wine stores or liquor stores (I live in Canada so I would go to the LCBO or Wine Rack) have a label beneath each wine giving you an idea of what it tastes like. This little label describes whether your wine is fruity, full-bodied or dry and how much sugar is in your wine.
Must-have Wines For Spring:
E & J Gallo White Zinfandel
Spring is the perfect time to think pink when it comes to your wine selections, and E & J Gallo White Zinfandel is a great choice. Mix this refreshingly sweet wine with soda water and garnish with fresh berries for a lighter, spring-inspired cocktail. A perfect start to any get together!
Alamos Malbec
Grilling season is around the corner and having a red wine like Alamos Malbec on your wine rack is a must! Without being too heavy, this medium-bodied wine from Argentina pairs well with barbeque and will be sure to elevate your backyard fare. Try it with grilled burgers and rib-eye steak with chimichurri sauce to hit it out of the park.
Barefoot Moscato
Instead of opting for a traditional dessert, why not end your meal with a glass of chilled Barefoot Moscato. Serve as an accompaniment to seasonally fresh fruits and cream for a simple and delicious treat.
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc
If the warmer weather has you craving lighter fare, the Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc is a must-have for spring. This dry, crisp wine from New Zealand pairs perfectly with lightly grilled fish and salads. This full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc has vibrant acidity and is satisfying to sip as the days get longer and temperatures grow warmer.
La Marca Prosecco
Having a bottle of La Marca Prosecco is great to have on-hand to toast those everyday moments worthy of celebration. Whether cheers-ing your best gal pal, acknowledging an unexpected promotion or simply celebrating a Thursday Night with friends, this bright, off-dry, Prosecco from Italy offers notes of apple, pear, and lemon zest and pairs well with salty foods, like kettle chips and spicy almonds.
Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon
Sure the spring months are known for being cheerful and light, but sometimes the occasion calls for a more premium wine that is not only delicious but also crowd-friendly. Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County is an elegant choice for serving at a dinner party. It’s a beautifully balanced wine with dark fruit and a flourish of spice that will enhance tomato-based pasta dishes, pizza, and braised short ribs.
