Green Luxe: Natural Deodorant

We use it every day, it’s pretty much part of our routine and most of us shutter if we forget to use it. When you are stressed, when life is getting the best of us we know at least there’s one thing we can count on, well at least we hope we can. What is it…deodorant. Yes, that’s right, some call it a life saver, saver of all unpleasant smells that our underarm likes to emit when given the opportunity. We love it and hate it at the same time. We love it when it works and doesn’t make us smell funky. We hate it when it gives us a painful rash and an odd smell we just can’t put our finger on. Sometimes, we can go without it, we love those days and it’s pleasantly surprising… no smell. When we think about our health and how delicate the underarm area is. This definitely, has us thinking, what’s in this trusted friend that we smear on our underarm. It’s good for smells and sweat but is it good for us? When you realize that a daily ritual could be a determinantal one. Something that impacts your overall health in a negative way, you start to realize that it’s time to reconsider this relationship and try something new. There’s got to be a deodorant that really has my best interest at heart in every way. As much as it’s about riding smells and keeping pools of sweat at bay, it also has my health and vitality in mind. So what can you do? Go for natural.

It seems pretty simple, but it’s not easy to find a natural brand that works as well as what you would find in the drugstore. You will have to do some trial and error, unfortunately, it’s not one size fits all either. A natural brand that I love may not cut it for you. I thought I would list a few natural deo brands that meet the green luxe standard. Brands that I think you should try if you are looking for a natural deo or if you plan to switch brands.

FYI: When it comes to natural deodorants, you will find that you might have to apply it more than once. In the morning and afternoon or later in the day, it all depends on your body. Just thought I would let you know.

Meow Meow Tweet

Meow Meow Tweet, yes, this is the name of a brand that sells natural products including deodorant. I feel like this is a good brand to start with for anyone going natural for the first time. It’s great and they have a sensitive skin formula without baking soda. If you have sensitive skin, natural deodorants with baking soda may irritate your skin. Keep in mind, this is a deodorant and not an antiperspirant. It does a good job at keeping you dry but you may still sweat and yet smell great at the same time. Like Meow Meow Tweet I believe sweating is a natural process so it’s not a good idea to stifle this natural process of eliminating (toxins) and cooling (keep your body at the right temperature).

Why Is It So Good?

  • Contains no baking soda or clay
  • Made with: dietary magnesium and arrowroot powder
  • It has plant oils and butters that soothe and condition your skin

PROVISION – Purify Natural Deodorant Spray

Some people prefer a spray deodorant. Aerosol cans are a big no no in my opinion. They are terrible for the environment as well. You can still get the same effect with a spray deodorant. PROVISION offers an amazing deodorant that’s made with enzymes designed to break down odor molecules naturally. It also contains one of my favourite scents Vetiver. It’s made by a pro perfumer which might explain the use of Vetiver and why it smells so good.

Why Is It So Good?

  • Natural enzymes breakdown odor
  • Natural scents of Vetiver Root Oil  and Clary Sage Oil
  • Contains WitchHazel, Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract.
  • paraben free

LAVANILLA

You may be familiar with this brand due to their popular all-natural fragrances. This deodorant comes in a few scents, including a sports scent (it still contains vanilla) and fragrance-free. When it comes to deodorant, I don’t think gender matters. Just use it, it if works,  it doesn’t matter if it smells like vanilla, lavender or a ‘sport’ scent. This is one of the best unisex deodorants on the market.

Why Is It So Good?

  • Free of aluminum, paraben & harsh chemicals. No Propylene Glycol
  • Made with natural and pure essential oils and antioxidants
  • Your dermatologist will approve.
  • Amazing for sensitive skin and it goes on clear!
  • It has aloe in it which is great for delicate underarm skin

OSMIA

My favourite thing about Osmia is that they “don’t believe that locking sweat glands is healthy! I agree! Yes, I know sweat isn’t always convenient, but let’s just focus more on the smell rather than a bit of moisture. I know some people suffer from excessive sweat, rather than cover it up I think it’s a good idea to investigate why it’s happening in the first place. Remember your body tells you what you need to know so pay attention. This deodorant is applied by hand and it’s for all skin types. Some people say it’s not suited to for use with light to white clothing so keep this in mind. Just a note: those with SERIOUS odor may not find this suitable for them.

Why Is It So Good?

  • Organic tapioca starch, baking soda & fuller’s earth clay help control moisture, odor without blocking sweat glands
  • Organic oils of shea, jojoba, and tamanu soothe and calm irritated underarm skin
  • Essential oils help control bacteria responsible for causing odor.
  • NO toxic ingredients – allows your skin to function normally

There you have it. I will add more natural deodorants to the GREEN LUXE so keep checking or join the mailing list!
