It’s allergy season, ugh! I am feeling the allergy blues lately. Luckily my symptoms are mild this year. I wanted to share with you some great essential oils to get you through allergy season. Remember, a little bit goes a long way when using essential oils. All of the oils listed below have other uses as well. I will feature essential oil tips soon. One of the easiest ways to use these oils is to add a few drops to a washcloth and place it on your shower floor. The steam from the shower and oil will help to clear up congestion. This is the rockstar oil for colds and allergies! Eucalyptus is an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antimicrobial essential oil. In addition, it can help with an immune response that takes place when you come into contact with allergens. It relieves the following symptoms: coughing, sinus/chest congestion, sore throat and muscle & joint pain.
If you suffer from hyperpigmentation or post-acne scarring, add a few drops of lemon oil to a carrier oil and apply to the area of concern. Remember, be sure to cover areas exposed to the sun while using lemon oil since you will be more prone to photosensitivity and potential sunburn. Since peppermint oil is an expectorant, it’s one of the most popular essentials oils during allergy season. Peppermint oil provides instant relief for congestion and reduces phlegm. Add a few drops to your humidifier or mix it with a carrier oil such as avocado oil and use it topically.
Clove oil is one of my favourite oils to use during allergy season. In fact, I added it to my diffuser all year, I love the way it smells. What does clove oil do? Clove contains antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It’s a milder oil than eucalyptus oil and great for those who don’t like a strong-smelling oil. Here are a few great ways of incorporating clove oil into your allergy care regimen: add a few drops to your lotion, body oil, body/face wash (great for acne).
